Happy Look Up Day!
I started Look Up Day nearly five years ago to remind myself of lessons learned from a tragic accident and a lengthy recovery. Although I naturally thought celebrating the anniversary (9/27/09) would be needed, I knew that the remainder of the year, I would have the opportunity to revert back to bad habits, not staying true to my lessons. So, I decided to honor the lessons and holiday monthly. Each 27th since its conception in 2010, I have shared Look Up Day with the world. It reminds us all to:
1) Be aware of our surroundings, appreciating the beauty as well as the hazards. In essence, be in the moment and mindful.
2) Spin each situation positively. Although many circumstances appear negative at first, all experiences are opportunities, perhaps in disguise. There are no wasted experiences. All of life's hiccups, detours, and joyful moments lead to wisdom.
Over time, I realized that the lessons behind Look Up Day were essential tools to be carried with us not only on the 27th, but every day. So, I started using Look Up or the statement Here's to looking up daily. It helps reframe any situation. Additionally, it is key to becoming more mindful and grateful.
I encourage you to implement Look Up Day, Look Up, and looking up. They all stem from the greatest power we have, which is perspective. It is the only thing that we control in this life of ours, the power to change our thoughts and perspective.
I share Look Up, the holiday, and here's to looking up with you.
Here's to looking up today and every day!
