Happy Look Up Day!
In 2010, I started Look Up Day to remind me of a powerful lesson I learned along a nine-month recovery from a freak tree accident in New York’s Hudson River Valley. Celebrated each 27th to coincide with the date of the accident (9/27/09), I share Look Up Day and its two major components with you:
1) Be aware of your surroundings, appreciating the beauty as well as the hazards. In essence, be in the moment. Be more mindful.
2) Spin each situation positively. Although many situations appears negative at first, as did my tragedy, they are opportunities which may lead you on a needed life detour.
Look Up Day was creatively named to pass on the two components in one package. Its double entendre expresses perfectly that which helped me through a full blown life catastrophe. Although today is Look Up Day, the wisdom behind its creation is a powerful tool that you can carry with you daily. It continues to guide me through life’s hiccups. It can do the same for you.
I wrote a vignette about the creation and meaning of Look Up Day in my inspirational memoir, When All Balls Drop. You can watch a video reading of this vignette filmed in Hanalei Bay, Kauai, here.
