Life is a Carnival – Calle Ocho, Little Havana, Miami Florida
After celebrating Mardi Gras on the Carnival Paradise somewhere in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico last week, I took the adventure challenge to attend Calle Ocho, a yearly festival in Little Havana, Miami which combines music, food, drinks, shopping, and contests. It has morphed into the largest Hispanic festival with nearly 1 million people packing 8th Street (Calle Ocho) for a true Miami Carnival.
Calle Ocho – Miami Carnival
Although many Carnivals around the world are famous: Rio, Brazil, Barranquilla Colombia, Mardi Gras in New Orleans, I wanted to share with you a video recap of Calle Ocho filled with music, murals, mojitos, and an eating contest called El Croquetazo.
Mardi Gras, Calle Ocho, and St. Patty’s Day
It is the season of many festivals and holidays. The next up is St. Patty’s where everyone is a wee bit Irish. I’ve celebrated this St. Patty’s Day in Southie, Boston as well as Chicago with its green river. This year, I’ll be celebrating it on Carnival Paradise in the Gulf of Mexico on our way to Havana, Cuba. Believe it or not, there is a street named O’Reilly in La Habana.
