Last evening at the Academy of Glam in Cooper City, Women Inspiring Women of South Florida invited local author, Heidi Siefkas as their featured September speaker on the topic of “Looking Up – The Power of Perspective and Fostering Life Change.” Having recently released her inspirational memoir, When All Balls Drop: The Upside of Losing Everything, Heidi shared her story, readings from her book, and her wisdom about perspective.
As she unfolded her powerful journey of survival, she read three excerpts from her book, each dealing with a crucial element of the true story: tragedy, perspective, and a mantra that Heidi calls Looking Up. This concept of Looking Up, which is the take-away of her book, stems from the power of perspective. It has two major components that can be used by all in the face of adversity as well as in our daily lives:
1) To be aware of your surroundings, appreciating both the beauty and the hazards. In essence, be in the moment and mindful.
2) To spin each situation positively as many occurrences appear as negatives at first, but they can be wonderful opportunities in disguise.
